For many years we have offered the most in-depth educational tours available in the Copper Canyon area. However, the Milburn Foundation’s work in support of the Raramuri makes it much more than just a tour company. Our tours are not a profit-making business but rather an important source of financing for our cultural preservation projects.
All of our tours focus strongly on the principles of eco-tourism ---- treading as lightly as possible on the land as we learn about, honor and support the people who have long lived in harmonious relationship with the place they call home. Our roots run deep in Copper Canyon. Jan and Mireya Milburn lead our tours, assisted by family and friends who are locals, born and raised in the mountains and canyons collectively known as Copper Canyon.
Those who are fortunate enough to journey with the Milburn Foundation to Copper Canyon have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience a living history. Our tours are laid back and fun while also being exceptional learning experiences. You will visit the homes, farm lands, forests, rivers, waterfalls and canyons of the last “cave and cliff dwellers,” and have the opportunity to sing, dance and eat with them. Through lecture and story telling by Jan, Mireya, their Raramuri friends and guest guides who are authorities in their fields, you will learn about these remarkable people whose culture is ancient, spirituality is strong and hearts are happy. If you are open, the power and magnificence of the land in Copper Canyon will touch and awaken your soul.
Those who journey with us return home with photos, stories and lasting memories of a trip to a magnificent place. But well beyond this, we sincerely hope that you return home with a commitment to living sustainably as a steward of your home place after being touched by the heart and soul of Barranca del Cobre and its Raramuri caretakers.
