Travel/Tours
Copper Canyon ToursAll tours begin in El Paso, Texas and end in El
Paso, Texas. Specially designed tours may vary as to place of departure
and length. Schools,
organizations, private groups and families are always welcome. Here are brief descriptions of places you will
visit on some of the tours: Chihuahua,
Mexico Your stay begins
at the beautiful Westin Hotel in the city of Chihuahua overlooking the
sparkling city. You will be delighted at the comfort of the rooms,
wonderful dinner, and an extensive buffet breakfast that only the Westin
could serve. Special surprises await all of the visitors of the
Foundation Tours your last night in Mexico. Divisadero,
Mexico Known as the
“Copper Canyon Overlook”. This is where the East and West bound
trains meet for an incredible view of the Copper Canyon. Here we stay
with the Barriga family at their wonderful Mansion Tarahumara Hotel
“El Castillo”. Hiking to the overlooks and visiting the old
homestead of Mireya’s grandfather are some of the highlights here. You
will be able to buy arts and crafts directly from friends and family of
the Milburn’s. This is your first opportunity to interact with the
Tarahumara Indians. (High Country Tours) Batopilas,
Mexico Batopilas is and
old gold and silver mining town in the bottom of the canyon. An exciting
bus trip winding down from an altitude of 7000 feet to a little over
1200 feet is a full days adventure. We make our way to our next stay at
the Alcaraz Castelum Casa “Real de Minas de Acanasaina” which will
be home for us. We will explore and hike to the lost cathedral of Satevo
or to the old mines of the famous hacienda, which now lay in ruins. This
will be a wonderful example of history from the time when gold and
silver mining was a rapidly growing industry in Batopilas. (Low Canyon
Tour) Cuzarare Depending on
which tour you are on the Hotel at Cuzarare awaits us coming and going
from the bottom of the canyon back to the high country. Don’t look for
modern conveniences here as no electricity or telephones are available.
However you will find warm hospitality and family style eating of
typical local foods as you come and go on hikes to one of the most
beautiful waterfalls in the area. Special walking tours are also
available to visit the Tarahumara families and their homes in log or
cave dwellings. Here is an opportunity to share in the ancient cultural
ways that are still alive and willingly welcome its visitors. (High
Country Tour) Creel Creel is the
last large town off the highway on the rail where the “Mestizo” and
the Raramuri come together before going into the Tarahumara homelands.
Creel is the home of the Milburn Foundation International Institute De
Mexico. The area around
Creel is a road less sea of lush, misty mountains. This is the most
primitive terrain in Mexico. Creel provides a great opportunity for
shopping and for visiting the Tarahumara museum.
The Chihuahua Pacific Railroad is famous for its train rides
crossing the Sierra Occidental to the Pacific Ocean. This brings many
visitors to Creel Cerocahui This location is
11 miles from Creel. We will visit an old Jesuit Mission, founded in
1681. Currently this territory is a part of the country surrounding the
community of Urique, which offers great historical merit, all enhanced
by the numerous beautiful views and natural attractions that abound in
the area. Make this a lifetime experience you, your family
or organization will never forget. The Tarahumara , Copper Canyon, and
your host Jan, Mireya and Joaquin Milburn welcome you. All tours
include meals and transportation from El Paso, Texas to the State of
Chihuahua (the home of your stay), and back to the U.S. Border into El
Paso, Texas. The tours accommodate hotels, tips, and guides. |
